1. It is A Good Form of Exercise

One reason to love hiking is that this activity is a great form of exercise. Take a leisurely walk among beautiful scenery instead of a high-intensity run. Go at your own pace and don't push yourself. If you need to take a break, rest at one of the benches or picnic areas along the way. Be sure to pack lots of water and light snacks to keep your energy up. Secure any open food when you're not eating it to avoid attracting wildlife. Black bears and deer have a stellar sense of smell.

2. It Can Lower Stress
Another reason why you will love hiking in the Smoky Mountains is that it can lower stress. The hike will allow you to temporarily unplug and forget about all your responsibilities. Just focus on looking at all the beautiful scenery. What's more? Being out in the fresh air can lower your heart rate and boost your mood. It can even improve sleep. After your hike, you will be an even better version of yourself!
3. You Can Bring Your Dog Along

There are two easy hiking trails in the Smokies that are also pet-friendly. One of them is the Gatlinburg Trail on the Tennessee side of the park. It is 3.8 miles roundtrip and follows the Little Pigeon River. The other is the Oconaluftee Trail, which is located on the North Carolina side. This route is 3 miles roundtrip and follows the Oconaluftee River.
Dogs are also permitted in the picnic areas throughout the national park. They are great places to sit and relax after your hike. When taking your dog anywhere in the Smokies, use a short leash (no more than 6 feet) and clean up after them.
4. It is A Great Group Activity
While hiking alone is peaceful, doing it in a group is fun too. It gives you an opportunity to spend quality time with your loved ones without devices. Laugh and make great memories as you wander along the trail. Another benefit of a Smoky Mountain hike with a group is that you have people around to help if you lose your way.
You’ll also love that hiking in the Smokies is a low-cost activity. While there is no entrance fee to the park, visitors will have to buy a Smoky Mountain parking pass if they plan to be parked for longer than 15 minutes. There are daily, weekly, and annual options available, all of which are very affordable.
Tip: Purchasing a Smoky Mountain parking tag does not guarantee a parking spot. Plan to arrive at the trailhead early in the morning to beat some of the crowds.
