Hiking the Twin Creeks Trail in the Great Smoky Mountains

Trailhead

twin creeks trail signThere is a small pull off at the beginning of the trailhead, but you may want to park at another location and walk to the trailhead. To get to the trailhead, you can park at Ogle Place Parking area to start at one side of the trail. Another option is to park at Mynatt Park on the other side of the trail just before the entrance to Cherokee Orchard Road.

Trail Description

Twin Creeks Trail in the Great Smoky Mountains is an out-and-back trail that takes you through the beautiful woods of the mountains. It is considered easy and has a roundtrip length of 4.5 miles. This trail is perfect for people of all ages and skill levels. Throughout the entire hike, you’ll be able to spot Cherokee Orchard Road, so you don’t have to worry about being too far from civilization!

If you start from the southern end of the trail, you will get to see the Noah “Bud” Ogle cabin. This building was built in the 1880s, and it has a saddle-bag design, meaning two buildings are connected by a common chimney.

All along the trail, you’ll be able to look out into the woods. It’s beautiful any time of the year, but especially in the spring and fall. You’ll see wildflowers starting to bloom and trees budding with new leaves in the spring. In the fall, the leaves start to change colors, providing you with incredible views. You’ll also cross creeks throughout the trail.

It is common to see bears along this trail. If you do see a bear, be sure to stay at least 50 yards from it. While it is exciting seeing a wild animal, do not approach it. Just watch from a safe distance! Here are some other things you should do when you see animals while you’re hiking.
